Retailers will proudly advertise the use off coupons, loyalty programs, and buy one- get one deals. However, these “deals” are not always what they’re cracked up to be. The following tips will help you avoid being duped by retailers:

1. BOGO is not always your friend. Only take advantage of a buy one- get one sale if you were originally planning on buying the product on sale. If not, you risk wasting money on products you won’t use.

2. This same rule applies to coupons. Coupons can be deceiving. You may think you’re getting a great deal, but if you’re purchasing something you don’t or won’t use, you’re losing money.

3. When it comes to loyalty programs, enroll yourself in a select few. This way you will be spending more money in less stores all while earning more rewards.
